Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia case study

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is cancer of the white blood cells. These immature cells multiply, and then damage and kill normal red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This then spreads to other organs throughout the body, causing a decrease of effectiveness and eventually a complete shutdown of the body if not treated. This cancer is most common in children with an onset between the ages of two and five years, and another peak occurs in old ate. The cause is damage done to the DNA possibly associated with exposure to radiation and chemicals. There is also a type of leukemia called secondary leukemia developed from previous radiation or chemotherapy exposure during prior cancer treatment.
